Raptor
VISITOR SIGN IN
Welcome to the 2015-16 school year! In an effort to maintain your child's safety, Westerly Public Schools have implemented the RAPTOR Visitor Management System this year. It was piloted at the Central Office during the last half of the 2014-15 school year with a positive outcome.
Upon entering the building, visitors will check in with the main office where you will be asked to provide a photo ID (driver's license, state issued ID, or passport) that will be scanned into the system to be checked against sex offender databases from all 50 states.
Raptor will then print a visitor badge with a photo, location of visit, and the date/time. We are able to keep track of who is in the building at all times. Prior to exiting the building, you will be required to return your badge to the main office and we will sign you out. You will only have to provide your photo ID one time to scan. On any subsequent visits, we will be able to pull your information using only your name and then a badge can be printed.
Staff will be on hand during our open house on October 1st to scan identifications into the system to streamline the process for visitors and volunteers when checking into the building during school.
Thank you for your cooperation as we ease into this new procedure for the safety of your children.
Notes from Ms. Martin
Student Ambassadors
Student Ambassadors are grade 4 students who act as exemplars to all other students in the Springbrook Community.  As determined by the team at Springbrook, grade 4 students will earn the privilege to serve as Student Ambassadors if they meet the requirements listed:
  1. Completion of application and essay
  2. Following the school expectations of being: responsible, respectful, and safe
  3. Following the classroom rules
  4. Demonstrating the ability to set an example for their peers
  5. Have not received a major discipline referral
The team will meet again at the beginning of the second quarter to determine additional students who have met the above criteria and will serve as Student Ambassadors. As the year proceeds, all student who are meeting or have met the guidelines will serve as student ambassadors for a period of time. Please note, that if a student receives a major discipline referral, they will no longer serve as a student ambassador.

Attendance
Good attendance in elementary school is extremely important to your child’s academic success.  Absences, later arrivals and early dismissals result in a loss of instruction, and over time, have the potential to result in learning gaps.  Instruction starts at 8:45 and ends at 3:15.  Please make every effort to make appointments outside of the school day and schedule vacations during school breaks.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school.
Doctors’ excuses can be forwarded to the main office.  Please call the main office at 348-2296 to report absences.

Everyday at Springbrook School we practice the 3 B's
BE RESPONSIBLE
BE RESPECTFUL
BE SAFE
Meal Charge Policy 2800
There has been a change in the district’s “Meal Charge Policy (2800)” and it will be effective on Monday, April 27. Here are the highlights and you may access the entire policy on the district’s website.
  • Student wanting a lunch and not having money to purchase a lunch will be allowed to charge a lunch with repayment within (2) school days.
  • Once a student has charged a total of $10.00 and no payment has been received, the student will receive a lunch consisting of a cheese sandwich, fruit, and milk. This takes the place of a full hot lunch. You will be charged full price for this lunch and the cost will be added to your negative account.
  • Any negative account balances of more than $10.00 will be forwarded to the Food Service Vendor and building principals. Families will be notified and you will have 10 days to pay or make payment plans.
  • Please submit a free/reduced lunch application if it is needed. It is also suggested that use the online program, www.myschoolbucks.com to make and confirm payments and monitor the account activity.
  • Parents are expected to pay the final bill at the end of the school year. No amounts will be carried over.
Attendance Team
Springbrook School's Attendance Committee is comprised of the following SES staff, Ms. Martin~Principal, Mrs. Locke~Executive Assistant, Mr. Iacoi~Attendance Officer, Mrs. Schronrog~Social Worker.
The role of the Attendance Committee is to review all student's attendance, reach out to those families who may need support. We also will be rewarding those students with good attendance in addition to those children with improved attendance. If you have any concerns regarding your child's attendance, please contact any of the above committee members.
REMINDERS
Please record your child’s name on the tag of all outerwear. We have collected many items which are currently located in the "lost box" outside the gymnasium.

Students must wear sneakers with socks on the days they are scheduled to have physical education class. Failure to wear or bring to school sneakers will prevent a child from participating in PE class.

We do not have the staff to supervise children before 8:25 AM. Please avoid delivering students before 8:25.

Students who enter the school building after 8:45 AM are considered tardy and must report to the Main Office by a parent or caregiver.

The Supper Table LOCATION CHANGE
Families are invited every Monday from 4:30-6:30 pm for a hot, nutritious, FREE supper served at the Calabrese Club

Our chefs prepare wonderful meals, served to you in a comfortable dining environment.
